Welcome to Chanhassen
Located southwest of the city of Minneapolis in Carver County, Chanhassen is named for the Dakota word for “sugar maple tree.” It is home to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, which offers 1,200 acres of tree collections, gardens, woods and prairies for all to enjoy. It was established in 1958 by the University of Minnesota Horticultural Research Center. It has miles of trails and a 3-mile road to see many of the collections from a vehicle. The Chanhassen Dinner theater was founded in 1968. It is the largest professional dinner theater in the nation, as well as the largest privately-owned restaurant in the state of Minnesota. Prince’s Paisley Park recording studio is also located in Chanhassen. The two primary school districts that serve the area are the Chanhassen School District and the Chaska School District. Those who live in the northern area of Chanhassen attend Minnetonka School District schools.
